Representing members in the independent sector

ATL is the largest single union in the independent sector with approximately 20,000 members.

This 'independent' section of the website is designed to supplement the information on the rest of the ATL website by addressing the specific issues and concerns of the independent sector. 

We know that while there are many universal issues in education, there are also significant differences between the independent and state maintained sector. Unlike the state sector, there are no national pay and conditions, no standard book of rules. Consequently, there are significant differences in terms and conditions of employment including pay, as well as differences in ethos and culture.
